The Preamble: A Beginning

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."


The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America is neither law nor measure and yet, it preludes one of the most important documents in the history of America. Written by the Framers, this paragraph manifests the ideals of this great country in a few simple words. These words have deep meaning, if not tangible effects on society.
Form a More Perfect Union
- In stark contrast to American liberty at the time of the Constitution's construction, Great Britain's liberties were being stifled and smothered by the monarchs of the time. The Founders wanted to emphasize the separation between GB and the US from the very beginning.
Establish Justice
- This includes law enforcement and courts; a representative government; social justice stemming from the rights to life, liberty, and property; and equality under the law.
Insure Domestic Tranquility
- By regarding peaceful living and enforcement of laws as necessary to strengthen either a budding country or an established one, the Founders began a trend that leads toward a measured and stable country.
Provide for the Common Defence
- A military/coast guard, border defense, and tariffs to support such actions were and are necessary to protect a country from the assault from persons that want to do harm upon this country.
Promote the General Welfare
- Education, jobs, healthcare, social services, and food availability plus the ability for citizens to express themselves is yet another crucial part in supporting a country based on personal liberties and rights.
Secure the Blessings of Liberty
- Lastly, this point secures all of the above and solidifies them by closing the loop and emphasizing the importance of every right and freedom that the citizens of the United States of America have and celebrate.
